Abstract: |
The surveyed area consisted of the moated enclosure and fishpond, to include the parkland to north and south, approximately as on Faden's Map of 1797. The parkland to the south had a hollow way at its southern end corresponding to a roadway shown on Faden as a park boundary. Apart from a fragment of an earlier watercourse and a modern drain and resulting spoil ridge, other features there were too fragmented to ascertain their archaeological significance, if any. The northern parkland had linear features in the north-east and north which may well have been in part former park boundaries, whilst some short linear features north and east of the stable block included a fragment of a former drive to the house seen on early 19th century maps.
