Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. Palaeolithic animal remains and flint tools had been found in the surrounding area, and part of a bronze age timber trackway had been excavated nearby. Excavation at the site itself had revealed peat deposits and in situ fallen tree trunks. Roman artefacts had been found in the vicinity, and an 11th century canal may have passed through the area. Ponds and docks were constructed on the site itself in the 19th century. It was concluded that further archaeological work wold be necessary. [AIP] |
