Abstract: |
Detailed geophysical survey (magnetometer and resistance) covering 3.5 hectares was carried out on land surrounding Austhorpe Hall on the outskirts of Leeds, as apart of a community based project, funded by the Local Heritage Initiative, to investigate archaeology in the vicinity of the hall. Magnetic anomalies indicative of infilled archaeological ditches have been identified to the south of the hall. These ditches form a triple ditched enclosure with a circular ditched feature appended to the south-western side. West of these enclosures linear anomalies were interpreted as associated field boundaries. Discrete anomalies within the enclosures were suggestive of occupational activity. The resistance survey identified low resistance anomalies to the south of the hall that may be associated with the 17th century gardens. [Au] |
