Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in response to a desk-based assessment, fieldwalking programme and magnetometer survey which identified the presence of early medieval and medieval remains on the site. Eleven trenches were excavated within the development area to sample magnetic anomalies identified during geophysical survey. The evaluation demonstrated the presence of significant archaeological remains dating to the late Saxon and early medieval periods. The late Saxon occupation was considered to have been regionally significant. Features of that date contained important well-preserved, and potentially unique, environmental remains. [Au(adp)] |
