Abstract: |
Monitoring was carried out on the excavation of foundation trenches prior to building construction work. There was pottery evidence dating to the 12th century and numerous later pits. There was also evidence of a substantial build up of soil in places suggesting property and street levels may have changed. Two cellars were recovered as well as a buried post medieval wall. Minimal amounts of pottery were recovered, but a few sherds of Thetford ware may date the original laying out of the town streets to the 11th century. The land use does not seem to have considerably changed since this period. [Au(abr)] |
