Abstract: |
The Heritage Network was commissioned to examine seven blocks of buildings located in the historic centre of Hitchin, with the aim of dating their earliest construction, and ascertaining whether they were intended for the accommodation of livestock. All the buildings could be demonstrated to be earlier than 1750, the oldest dating from the early 1500s and the latest to the early 1700s. All the buildings were originally intended for domestic and/or commercial use, and no evidence was noted to suggest any other use in the past. [Au(abr)] |
