Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during work to construct a new Combined Sewer Outflow (CSO) at the Hill House Pumping Station, Playden Rye. During the topsoil stripping, numerous drains and other features associated with the existing Pumping Station were observed, and sherds of post-medieval pottery associated with rubbish dumps and bonfires were collected. No medieval or earlier features were encountered either during the topsoil stripping or during the excavation of the two chambers for the new CSOs. A small assemblage of crude prehistoric flintwork, manufactured on a small beach pebble flint, was found during topsoil stripping. [Au(abr)] |
