Abstract: |
The assessment identified significant potential for archaeological remains of medieval and post-medieval origin. Excavations in close proximity of the site had revealed medieval features and deposits. The site was known to contain a number of extant later post-medieval buildings, ancillary structures, walls and garden features. It was also considered possible that Romano-British features and artefacts survived on site. Although no cut features had been discovered in Lewes town centre, a small group of Romano-British artefacts had been recovered from the vicinity of the site. The degree and extent of sub-soil/natural truncation within the main zones of development was unclear. [Au(adp)] |
