Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks at a development site which lay within a Local Area of Archaeological Importance. Excavations of parts of the present Southampton Common boundary bank had taken place at three locations in the vicinity of the site; no traces of a pre-20th century bank had been found. During the watching brief, several undatable features were observed which could have represented remnants of the boundary. The location of the features coincided well with early cartographic evidence. However, the features may alternatively have related to 19th century use of the area. [AIP] |
