Abstract: |
During the evaluation five trenches were excavated, all positioned to investigate potential archaeological anomalies identified from the geophysical survey. The presence of large ditches corresponded directly with the linear geophysical anomalies identified. Where dating material was obtained, the ditches proved to be of 18th-19th century date. Several features were not identified by the geophysical survey. The shallow remains of two possible east-west aligned lynchets were also located. Although undated, these could have been of medieval date. Ridge and furrow fields were predicted both by documentary assessment and geophysical survey. However, no direct archaeological evidence was recovered to confirm their presence.[Au(abr)] |
