Abstract: |
Geophysical (fluxgate gradiometer and resistance) surveys were carried out at the site of a proposed housing development in the Newtown area of Carlisle. Geophysical anomalies caused by modern services, landscaping and drainage and recent agricultural/recreational usage have been identified. Whilst some of these anomalies could be caused by truncated archaeological features the significant amount of disturbance evident across all parts of the site suggests a more recent origin for all the identified anomalies.
