Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on the site of a proposed new residential development within the medieval suburb of Saltisford. A medieval boundary ditch containing 13th-14th century pottery was revealed. The brick wall foundations of the cellars of a 17th century building, which stood on the site until the late 1960s, were also recorded along with yard surfaces and ephemeral structures relating to the 20th century use of the site as a garage. Several phases of construction were recorded and these included further wall foundations, brick steps and a blocked in cellar doorway. A possible construction cut and wall for a further cellar was also revealed. [Au] |
