Abstract:
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of seven inspection trenches prior to redevelopment. Structures containing pottery sherds of 13th to 14th century date were revealed above humic deposits at the base of the inspection trenches. Large quantities of butchered animal bone and well-preserved leather (including a complete 14th century shoe) were found. Late 19th century brick structures were also observed, and the alignment of the Walkerbeck culvert identified. [AIP]
