Abstract: |
<summary>The report, which was produced to aid planning and management proposals for the North Kent Marshes, focuses on the interactions between the geological and geomorphological evolution of the study area over the last 10,000 years, and the consequences of this for past and present human activity. The potential for preserved palaeolandsurfaces and for Upper Palaeolithic and Mesolithic sites from buried landsurfaces are noted. A model of stratigraphic and landform development in the marsh study area, such as channel infilling and marsh-edge development, is important in reconstructing the archaeological landscape from late Mesolithic to historic times. The report concludes that the archaeological potential in the study area is as great as, or greater than that in the wetland areas of the UK because of the geomorphological conditions and sedimentary dynamics which have prevailed since mid-Holocene times. {italon}Au(adp){italoff} |
