Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on two engineering test pits at the east end of St Denys Church. In Test Pit 1, the east wall of the church was seen to extend beyond the base of the trench at a depth of 2.15m, the walling was also seen to extend beyond the base of the shallower Test Pit 2. The reason for this unusual depth was not certain though it may have been related to either the wall lying above an earlier structure or to a feature internal to the church. An infant burial accompanied by two 19th century coins was also encountered in Pit 2. [Au(abr)] |
