Abstract:
Desk-based assessment of a site proposed for an extensive retail and commercial development identified that the site had probably remained unoccupied, because of its low lying aspect, until post-Roman times. Air photographic evidence suggested the presence of a possible ditched enclosure of unknown date at the western end of the site. Auger survey revealed little variation in alluvial sediments across the site, although the auger hole within the possible ditched enclosure produced fragmentary evidence of archaeological deposits.
