Abstract: |
The desktop study revealed that the site of the study area remained undeveloped pastureland until the construction of a brickyard in the mid 18th century. By 1773 the brickyard no longer existed and the study area appeared to have reverted back to land used for pasture/horticultural gardens. Between c.1828 and 1870 residential buildings, gardens and a green occupied the site and from c.1870 to 1954 the study area formed the southern half of the Soap Works. The building survey identified nine different phases of construction. [Au] |
