Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the removal of two trees within the grounds of Bisham Abbey, a Scheduled Ancient Monument (no. 148). Earlier watching briefs during the excavation of service trenches in 1992 and 1995 had recorded rubble, brick foundations and a well, all of post-medieval or modern date. During the 1996 watching brief, post-medieval brick, roof tile and dressed chalk blocks, animal bone and slag were recorded. It was not possible to ascertain whether earlier deposits were sealed by the demolition rubble, due to the shallow depth of the works. [AIP] |
