Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a housing development identified that a Bronze Age palstave had previously been found within the site. A Bronze Age arrowhead had also been recorded in the vicinity, and the skeleton of an elk associated with two Palaeolithic barbed bone points had been found 600m to the south-west. Other sites recorded nearby consisted of a 13th century oratory, a 16th century hall and a 19th century railway. Peat deposits had been recorded within the proposal area during the monitoring of engineering test-pits. It was recommended that an evaluation should be carried out in order to assess the palaeoenvironmental and archaeological significance of these deposits. [AIP] |
