Abstract: |
During the course of the watching brief the foundations of a wall recorded on the rectified copy of the 1841 tithe map and buildings recorded on the 1st OS County Series 25" map of circa 1880 were revealed. These buildings were also recorded on the 2nd and 3rd OS county Series 25" maps dating to circa 1900 and circa 1925. A large commemorative stone was uncovered within the backfill of the 19th century walls. The bowl shaped stone had an inscription naming two church wardens and dating the object to 1670. The shape of the stone and nature of the inscription indicated that it may have been the top of a font from the nearby church. [Au(abr)] |
