Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to proposed housing development in the vicinity of the former precinct of the suspected Saxon minster, now St Peter's Church. Excavation of an area totalling 26 square metres produced no discrete features of archaeological significance, though an extensive deposit of brash and limestone slabs contained a quantity of medieval material. The medieval pottery was significant because it was the first group in Bromyard to be recovered from a medieval context. Recent features included the foundation of a small retaining wall, pipe and land drain trenches.[AIP] |
