Abstract: |
The following report summarises the results of an archaeological watching brief undertaken at the former car park area at the southern end of Wandsworth Workshops, Garratt Lane, SW18, between 24th June 2002 and 3rd September 2002. The watching brief revealed that the upper 1.5m of the area had been truncated. Only observation of the excavation of the drain head and the lift pit revealed any undisturbed ground. The lift pit revealed evidence of possible timber revetting and land reclamation in the early post medieval period with animal bone waste hinting at nearby industrial activity, possibly tanning or leatherworking.
