Abstract: |
The archaeological assessment of the seafront at Ilfracombe was undertaken primarily as part of a National Heritage Lottery Funding Bid for the seafront enhancement scheme. Previous archaeological work within the town located the foundation wall of an early Methodist chapel. The assessment identified the need to continue investigation into the chapel which may have had associated burials. The need was also identified for further investigation into the summit of Capstone Hill which had structures on it erected for communications or coastwatching; Capstone Parade and the River Wilder.
