Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on the excavation of twelve test pits, eight observation pits and one archaeological trench prior to the proposed redevelopment of the site. These revealed evidence of human activity consisting of 18th to 19th century dumped material and made ground and partially intact foundations dating to the 19th and 20th centuries, none of which could be considered as being of archaeological significance. While the Civil War ditch was not found, the fact that natural deposits had survived truncation across much of the site (rather than being truncated) suggested that the ditch might have still been within the site boundary.
