Abstract: |
A total of 37 trenches were excavated and revealed that modern agricultural practices, such as deep ploughing and field drains, had seriously eroded archaeological deposits. A number of trenches were found to contain infilled field boundary ditches corresponding to boundaries visible on the 1888 Ordnance Survey first edition. Aerial photograph evidence suggested that many of these post-enclosure field boundaries were removed only in the late 1980s, with ceramic drains being laid in the ditches prior to backfilling and any hedges removed. No other archaeological remains were revealed. [Au] |
