Abstract: |
A series of evaluation trenches, excavated in advance of a proposed housing development, demonstrated well-preserved late medieval deposits in the north half of the site, with post-medieval landfill making up the level where the land dropped away in the south of the site. Structural remains were encountered on the frontages of Spen Lane and St Andrewgate, \nincluding the foundations of a 15th century timber building. Continued activity in the post-medieval period included a group of sheep metapodials suggestive of tanning activities nearby and a bronze-working hearth. [Au(abr)] |
