Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on the excavation of engineering test pits in advance of the proposed redevelopment of the site. Both test pits recorded similar deposits. Natural gravels were sealed by natural brickearth. This was in turn sealed by sub-soil that had 18th century pottery within it, probably pressed into it from the layer of garden soil above it. The garden soil produced one residual sherd of possible Roman glass. In test pit A, the garden deposits were sealed by up to 1 metre of dumped 19th century deposits. [Au] |
