Abstract: |
An archaeological trench evaluation on the site of a proposed housing development at the rear of 38 - 40 High Street, Wincanton was carried out. The site was situated within a planned later medieval extension of the town, the current land use comprising gardens to the rear of existing properties. The evaluation comprised the machine-excavation of two trenches, each measuring 3 x1m in plan. Both trenches contained the same sequence of soils, of which a small quantity of late medieval/post-medieval pottery was recovered. No archaeological deposits or features were present. [Au] |
