Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. Upper Palaeolithic or Mesolithic flints had been found close to the site, whilst dressed timbers or revetment structures of potentially Norman and later medieval date had been recorded in the area. Evidence of medieval buildings and occupation and of industries such as tanning and horn working had been observed. Archaeological work adjacent to the site had revealed significant deposits to considerable depths. It was concluded that previous development at the site was likely to have caused little disturbance to the lowest deposits, and that the impact of the proposed development would therefore probably be high.
