Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the proposed site of an extension to an activity centre was undertaken. The site lay close to an Iron Age hillfort where Roman and early medieval activity had also occurred; further Iron Age and Roman sites, as well as Neolithic and Bronze Age barrows, lay in the surrounding area. Several cropmarks were noted during an analysis of aerial photographs of the site, including one which represented the line of a Roman road. During fieldwalking at the site, prehistoric flints, and pottery dating from the prehistoric, Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods were recovered, and the presence of medieval ridge and furrow was noted.
