Abstract:
The study identified 21 archaeological and historic sites within 500m of the proposed site. One of these is a scheduled monument. There is recorded evidence for human activity in the form of localised finds of flint tools from the Mesolithic period onwards. The Iron Age saw the development of extensive field systems, however, there is limited evidence of settlement and burials. The most significant activity in the area is a series of Roman pottery kilns along a Roman Road, possibly indicating an established settlement with a well developed pottery manufacturing process. The medieval and post-medieval archaeology that was identified, was largely restricted to agriculture and water management. [Au(adp)]
