Abstract: |
The watching brief identified waterlogged flood deposits at the lowest level and evidence of intense activity in recent centuries. The earliest activity was represented by an early sewer which was subsequently cut and made redundant by a second sewer. Between these periods of sewer construction, the area seems to have continued to be the subject of river flooding before being levelled for use as a working or trafficking area. No features or finds attributable to the medieval or earlier periods were encountered during the course of groundworks. [Au(abr)] |
