Abstract: |
A desk-based study of land proposed for development identified that the site, which lay within the core of the medieval settlement of Hertford, had a high potential for the survivial of remains from the late pre-Roman Iron Age, Romano-British, late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval periods. Borehole information indicated a thick layer overburden above natural gravel and there was a significant likelihood the archaeological remains were contained within this overburden and truncated the underlying gravel subsoil.
