Abstract: |
The assessment was particularly concerned with assessing the archaeological potential of the Palaeolithic material for the site, as Palaeolithic hand axes and elephant remains had previously been recorded. Reference to post-medieval and modern cartographic sources revealed that much of the site area had been quarried in the early part of the 20th century and the remainder built over. This level of disturbance suggested that the survival of archaeological deposits was unlikely, excepting deep ground works in the area of the shops.[Au(adp)] |
