Abstract: |
A desk top assessment was undertaken of land at Dairy Farm, Renhold. The study area was located within the remains of an extensive prehistoric landscape. There were four cropmark sites of likely prehistoric date within the study area which were all Scheduled Ancient Monuments. Although there had been no systematic archaeological investigations within the area itself, Iron Age and Roman settlements had been discovered in the vicinity. In later times, the study area formed part of the medieval open field system of Renhold. Examination of the aerial photographs for the site suggested that there may be some discrepancies between the plotted cropmarks, the Scheduled Ancient Monument boundaries and the exact location of the cropmarks. A programme of further work was proposed to provide more information on the archaeological resource of the study area. This would enable a stategy to be developed for the future management of both the monuments themselves and the archaelogical resource of the area as a whole. [Au(adp)] |
