Abstract: |
An excavation of the driveway and the footprint of a proposed house was undertaken. It was found that an excavation carried out in 1974-5, previously thought to have been confined to an adjacent plot, had in fact examined parts of the present site. Three of the earlier trenches were identified, and two cess pits recorded at the time were noted. Further features were revealed in the undisturbed areas, including a medieval ditch, a large and shallow cut which may have been a quarry, and several post holes or small pits. The site appeared to have been under cultivation in the post-medieval period. No artefacts of intrinsic interest were recovered, although there were small groups of medieval pottery and bone.
