Abstract: |
During the course of the evaluation no evidence was found for structures associated with St Guthlac's Priory, however, burials were present in one of the trenches. The absence of burials in two trenches further to the south-east suggested that the boundary of the cemetery may have lain almost immediately to the south-east of the burials found. Although the boundary of the cemetery was not located in any of the trenches, an eight metre strip in which it must have been was defined. In the cellar and presumably with its upper parts truncated during the construction of that building was a ditch aligned north-east/south-west. Although no dating evidence was found in the fill of this feature, its alignment and position corresponded with that of the parish boundary. [Au(abr)] |
