Abstract: |
<summary>Desk-based assessment established that there was an enormous potential for surviving archaeological deposits within the redevelopment area. The Thames foreshore and its hinterland was regularly exploited, if not permanently settled, prior to the Roman conquest. In the Roman period, in order to provide materials for the construction of {italon}Londinium{italoff}, minerals were extracted extensively, including from the vicinity of the study area. From at least the 3rd century AD, an extensive cemetery is known to have expanded eastwards from the city boundary and extended to the area covered by the redevelopment site. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
