Abstract: |
A desk based study of the proposed site of a residential development was undertaken. Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement evidence had been excavated in the surrounding area; a Bronze Age and a 7th century cemetery had also been recorded. Settlement and a mill and fishery at Burghfield had been recorded in the Domesday survey of 1086. The mill had become disused by 1934, and its gear had been removed by the mid-1960s, although the wheel remained. A wheel and a sluice were still present at the site at the time of the assessment.
