Abstract: |
<summary>An evaluation on land proposed for an office block development established that most of the medieval frontage had been badly disturbed by 19th century brewery buildings. Traces of a possibly medieval building were found adjacent to the modern pavement, but there was no indication of the original course of the Great North Road. To the rear of the site, a series of pits of 17th century date (possibly used in association with lead smelting) were found cutting through earlier medieval pits. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
