Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief on probeholes and boreholes at the Town Depot revealed evidence of medieval/post-medieval millponds and causeways known to have formerly existed on the site. Reclamation deposits of 18th to 20th century date were seen, as were natural deposits. No evidence was found of Middle Saxon occupation, or of the medieval cemetery thought to exist on the site, however some building material, possibly from medieval/post-medieval buildings, was found.
