Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the construction of a fishpond, at a site, which lay adjacent to fields containing cropmarked prehistoric features. A linear feature was noted at the eastern edge of the pond, but excavation revealed that it contained only post-medieval material. Furthermore, it matched the known position of a field boundary extant in 1887. A number of land drains running perpendicular to this feature may have preserved the pattern of furrows from a pre-existing ridge and furrow field system of which there were hints on aerial photographs of the site.
