Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was undertaken prior to the redevelopment of the site. The excavation revealed a single Roman pit, along with a number of features dating to the post-medieval period. One of these, a long, L-shaped ditch or horticultural trench, contained residual Roman material, which included a copper alloy brooch. A Saxon spearhead, found during a previous evaluation phase on the site, was suggested to have been present in the same residual post-medieval context. Evidence of gravel quarrying and horticultural exploitation of the site dated to the post-medieval period. [Au(adp)] |
