Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of four trial trenches, was undertaken as part of a planning condition. The evaluation concluded that there were no surviving archaeological remains within the site and that there would be no archaeological impact from the construction work itself. It was possible that some 17th or 18th century archaeological survival did occur at the extreme south-west corner of the site. The OS Map of 1864 showed that some structural evidence associated with Derwentwater House may have encroached into the designated site area. However, it was probable that the extreme southern parts of the site may have been subject to landscaping rather than deep construction works, resulting in little archaeological impact. It was also of note that no steel piling had been undertaken at the south-western corner of the site. [Au(abr)] |
