Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. Prehistoric finds, including bronze age pottery, had been recorded in the area, whilst Roman remains included a 1st century ditch, buildings, cemeteries and parts of the city wall. The projected lines of two Roman roads passed nearby. Early medieval pits and burials had also been recorded, and the site overlay the medieval city ditch. A medieval abbey and the main eastern gate into the city lay nearby. It was concluded that an evaluation should be carried out. [AIP] |
