Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken in response to development proposals, which noted a single Grade II Listed Building. Adapted from an earlier 19th century building called Moor House, it had been used as the main office building for the station since 1885. No known archaeological sites were identified within the site, but several were recorded in the immediate vicinity, with finds and deposits on both sides of the development area. The site lay in part of the Thames Valley that was rich in archaeological finds and deposits and was in a topographic location where good preservation of archaeological and palaeo-environmental deposits could be anticipated. Part of the site had seen some disturbance from structures built for the railway and petroleum depot, but the majority of the site appeared to have been buried by made ground and did not appeared to have been excessively disturbed to any great depth.
