Abstract: |
<summary>Trinity House acquired the building in 1524 as an addition to property they already owned in Broad Chare. It had been known as Dalton's Place, and in the 15th century had belonged to John Dalton. Trinity House probably used it as their meeting room. When a new hall was built, {italon}circa{italoff} 1620, the old hall became available for other activities, which included the making and repairing of sails and rigging in the 17th and 18th centuries. Dalton's Place is the only domestic site in Newcastle to have survived with most of its original plan still comprehensible and, as it can now be seen, with one of its original buildings still standing. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
