Abstract: |
An evaluation, funded by the London Borough of Hillingdon, was carried out at a proposed gravel extraction site. Extensive prehistoric and later remains had been recorded in the surrounding area. Four trenches were excavated, but no archaeological features were revealed. Finds ranging in date from prehistoric to post-medieval times were present. It was concluded that a larger expanse of the interface layer between the brickearth and the gravel should be investigated, as Palaeolithic artefacts had been found in this layer at a nearby site.
