Abstract: |
To the east of the site anomalies have been identified that were interpreted as being probably due to infilled natural marshland features such as creeks or inlets. Further to the west the anomalies were thought to be more likely to be caused by changes in the composition of the soil, perhaps initiated by drainage, rather than by sub-surface features. However, even in the former marshy environment, there were small areas of slightly elevated, better draining, land and it was on these 'islands' that pockets of archaeological activity appeared to be clustered. In this survey anomalies interpreted as forming a small enclosure and other discrete features have been identified in the corner of one of the six survey areas. [Au(abr)] |
