Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a borrow pit and the construction of a flood defence wall, at a site which lay 400m to the south of a salt-working site, or 'red hill'. Possible evidence of prehistoric activity in the form of deposits of fired clay over a buried land surface had been identified nearby. During the watching brief, no archaeological features were discovered in the areas of the new defence works and the borrow pit. However, evidence of a 'red hill' a short distance to the west of the borrow pit was noted. [AIP] |
